At Eligo, we are passionate about developing new drugs to address unmet medical needs!

Eligo is building a platform technology based on phage engineering to produce eligobiotics that can deliver therapeutic DNA and (re)program a wide range of anaerobic bacterial species in-situ. With such a capability, Eligo is poised to lead the new generation of precision microbiome engineering companies.

To be able to translate our research to the clinic, we need to design and engineer bacterial strains, therapeutic DNA circuits and phage genomes which will be used to produce our eligobiotics.

> We are therefore looking for excellent microbiologists who have already some experience with anaerobic bacteria / molecular biologists / synthetic biologists excited to tackle the ambitious challenges of diving into phage genetics and engineering bacterial strains.

The ideal candidate is passionate about genetic engineering. You’ll work hand-in-hand with other international scientists to engineer eligobiotic candidates to be used in our clinical trials.


  • Genetic engineering of anaerobic species – method development and optimization 
  • Tune genetic expression on developed circuits for efficient function in target bacterial species
  • Engineer new DNA packaging and delivery systems based on engineered phages
  • Build, test, debug, and optimize genetic circuits 
  • Work hand-in-hand with other scientists to accelerate the process of eligobiotics engineering
  • Help setting up our anaerobic lab


  • Ph.D. or equivalent at minimum
  • Demonstrated experience with microbiology and molecular biology techniques on anaerobic bacteria
  • Can copy, paste, or edit genetic code on a plasmid or a genome “as easily as using Word”
  • Previous success engineering at least one organism or gene or circuit — plants, fish, microbes, worms, fungi … it doesn’t matter, as long as it worked! 🙂
  • Phage expertise a plus
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and accuracy and an ability to work independently to solve technical problems 
  • Ability to multi-task without compromising quality and accuracy 
  • Effective management of time and effort to meet deadlines 
  • Strong interactive skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong collaborative attitude essential
