Phage scientist / Automation enthusiast

At Eligo, we are passionate about developing new drugs to address unmet medical needs!

Eligo is building a platform technology to produce an arsenal of eligobiotics to target a wide range of bacterial species. With such a capability, Eligo is poised to lead the new generation of precision microbiome engineering companies. To build our library of delivery vectors based on phage capsids, we need not only to discover and characterize a large number of phages with unique capabilities, but also validate their in-vivo activity.

We are looking for phage experts excited to tackle the challenge of both screening environmental samples and bacterial collections to discover unknown phages and characterizing them once isolated. Our whole process is now highly automatized thanks to our robotic pipeline.

The ideal candidate is passionate about phage biology and phage therapy. You’ll work hand-in-hand with other Eligonauts (microbiologists, genetic engineers, and animal model scientists) to optimize the engineering and validation of eligobiotics candidates for clinical trials.

  • Screening and testing of bacterial collections/environmental samples to discover and isolate new phages
  • Characterization and annotation of discovered phages
  • Testing of the phages on targeted pathogenic bacteria
  • Optimization of phage infection cycle
  • Work hand-in-hand with our Microbiologists and Synthetic Biologists to accelerate the process of eligobiotics engineering

  • Ph.D. or Masters
  • Good molecular biology skills
  • Great microbiology techniques
  • Previous success isolating and characterizing different phage types (for multiple bacterial species a plus)
  • Several years of post-graduate/industry experience a plus
  • Programming experience (any language) a plus
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and accuracy and an ability to work independently to solve technical problems
  • Ability to multi-task without compromising quality and accuracy
  • Effective management of time and effort to meet deadlines
  • Strong interactive skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong collaborative attitude essential
